Fresh from his solo show at Reed Space in NYC, the brilliant Dutch artist, Parra, has created a new collection for his Rockwell clothing line titled “Crap”. Of course the results are nothing short of extraordinary, but the title is appropriate given the artist’s sarcastic and often caustic wit. The designs shown here are signature Parra with bright, bold cartoon shapes and ludicrous subjects. My favorite is the “Must Kill Tomato” shirt that depicts Parra’s rendition of a super hero as he’s about to strike a seemingly helpless tomato with an alarmingly large and menacing carrot. Something about this reminds of the futile efforts of the over aggressive Elmer Thud to hunt down that harmless whaskally whabbit. My other favorite is the “Rainy Bench” tee, which is a great example of the intermixed, and interrelated colors Parra is known for. Check out some of Parra’s work at the Rockwell site.
