Beautiful Decay – New Website Relaunch

beautiful_decay_site.jpg

Our friends over at Beautiful Decay have just totally revamped their site adding some great new interactive features for a real community feel. If you want to know what’s what in the art world – the trendiest event in your town, the gallery to explore on your next urban adventure - this is pretty much THE place to be. In addition to the Public Feed, which allowed visitors to post their own content, the site now lets you post your own events in the Events section. Considering the kind of patronage BD attracts, this is a perfect way for artists to promote their shows and get their work out there. This accessibility to a sometimes pretentious or even slightly unapproachable world is exactly what has made all of BD’s ventures so successful. Their youthful and informed approach to traditional high art and the pairing of that world with graffiti, graphic design, music, and fashion has made it much more relevant to a young, design savvy audience. Plus, the site looks just as good as it sounds and they make some hot ass t-shirts! So do yourself a favor: get your mind right and go get some culture at www.beautifuldecay.com.

P.S. we’ll be getting some of BD’s finest designs in the shop in a few weeks so check back sucka.

2X4 Tees

2×4_just_the_twoofus1.jpg

Although it sounds like the weapon of choice for Hacksaw Jim Duggan, 2X4 is actually a cool brand from the land down under that has the perfect formula for putting together a great artist designed series: 2 shirts X 4 artists = 8 well designed and finely made tees per series. Their first release is pretty impressive with artists like Noah Butkus, who is just coming off a show at the Turntable Lab LA store, and Adam Cruickshank, whose site you need to check out because he is just insanely talented. These two guys designed my favorite shirts of the series, which you can see above and below.

The ‘Just The Two Of Us’ tee is a good example of Butkus’ signature ninja/zombie mashup characters that look very eerie, but somehow likeable. And Cruickshank’s ‘Hawt Dog’ tee is an amusing design with some very interesting interaction between the horizontal halves - stirring up images of everything from Lady And The Tramp to that infamous scene in Requiem For a Dream.

Jeff Canham and Emil Kozak are the two other artists who brought some equally impressive design credentials to the series.

Check out the 2X4 site for the rest of the tees and more info on the artists.

Roarin Euphony – How Much Do I Turn You On tee

Roarin Euphony is a brand from Hong Kong that may not be that well known here, but is kind of a big deal around the eastern half of the world. With a tee like this it’s easy to conclude that their Asian market acclaim will be spreading stateside shortly. Bottom line: this shirt is just sick – not just in that fresh and dope kind of way, but in that leather clad, sexual deviant kind of style that’s somehow perversely alluring. It seems like the iconic beauty design theme is everywhere these days, whether it be a take on Marilyn or Kate, but the S&M twist is the freshest adaptation I’ve seen in a while. Plus, the real leather and zipper accent on the black and white print gives this shirt the character of haut couture, with the edginess that only an independent streetwear label can bring.

Substratum Apparel – Wrath tee

Colby Nichols is a talented designer and illustrator from San Diego that has worked with Substratum Apparel to put together a very impressive line of tees based on the 7 deadly sins. The “Wrath” tee really struck me as a powerful image. According to the site, “Depicted is a story of reckless pain. The devil guides a man through his vicious actions as he stands amongst his fallen victims.” This reminds me of that faithful moment when Anakin Skywalker shifts to the dark side as he unleashes the full force his wrath and fury and slaughters all the little furry creatures that killed his mother… obviously any contemporary moral discussion is incomplete without citing the wisdom of Star Wars.

Check out Colby’s site for more impressive sketchwork.

IM KING – You Are What You Eat tee

imking-you-are-what-you-eat.jpg

I just came across this cool tee from IM KING’s summer line and I can’t believe I missed it before. Although the whole you are what you eat/I am music theme isn’t a very unique design concept, I thought this was an exceptionally well executed approach. The image of the guy gobbling tapes like he’s gonna choke is entertaining, but the best part is the awesome typography which is deftly layed out and makes the whole design jump.

Check out the rest of the line at the IM KING site.

Mishka x Evil Design – Cut Tee

World-renowned streetwear purveyors, Mishka, have teamed up with toy-making maestros, Evil Design, to put together a set of limited edition tees to be sold on the new Mishka site. Evil Design’s amusingly gory characters work perfectly with Mishka’s bright grisly styling. The ‘Cut’ tee is my favorite from the series. This little clever guy may look adorable, but I wouldn’t want to cross him - even if you could wrestle those knives out of his hands, he’s always got that lethal head-butt to finish off his prey.

Check the Mishka site for the rest of the line, and definitely visit the Evil Design site for awesome toys and other design work.

Ride The Rockett

rocket-zombie-icecream-tee.jpg

Rockett is a brand out of California that’s been blowing up on the t-shirt scene lately. Their designs are inspired by all things that, well, ROCK! Like horror flicks, and skulls, and all sorts of other nefarious, head banging thing that influence troubled rock kids. Take this ‘Zombie Ice Cream’ tee for instance, which depicts two scoops of strawberry zombie head toped with roses and a splash of explosion. Or this ‘King of The Castle’ tee, which shows that crazy old monster that stars in almost every black and white horror flick protecting his stone habitat.

Check out the site for the rest of their new line, and come back to us soon cause we’re hoping to get some of these shirts in the FI shop.

Coin Studio – Foda tee

coin-studio-foda.jpg

Coin Studio describe themselves as “a group of stylish guys who wanna show fashionable ideas via Hong Kong-made series.” This FODA tee is a pretty cool fashionable idea. Although I have no clue what a foda is, this bold design looks like a good time. At first glance it seems like just a bright angular collage, but a closer look at the scattered appendages reveals a dirty little touch.

The designs are just dope, the fit is perfect, and the cotton is soft as silk. The images range from nostalgic to slightly political with the O.G. Darth Vader and the angel winged soldiers.
